Barbara Blumberg, PhD

Professor of history on the New York City campus, passed away on May 23, 2019. Blumberg, who retired last year after 47 years of distinguished service, chaired what was then the Social Sciences Department and later the History Department in NYC for many years. She will be remembered for her devotion to her students.

Alfred J. Dumais, PhD

Passed away on November 16, 2018. Dumais joined Pace in 1965, and during his 26 years at the university, he served as chair of what was then the Theater and Fine Arts Department. He instituted the theater arts major, laying the foundation for the development of the Pace School of Performing Arts of today.

Joseph E.
Houle, PhD

Served as dean of the Dyson College of Arts and Sciences for nearly two decades, passed away on December 8, 2018. The dean emeritus played an integral role in the university’s transition from Pace Institute to Pace College, and he will be remembered for establishing the mathematics program, the Society of Fellows, and the Center for Applied Ethics.

Charles Maryan

Adjunct professor of English, Theater, and Communications, passed away on November 4, 2018. He taught for nearly 25 years at the university and was a valued, active member of the Communication Studies Department on the New York City campus. Maryan will be remembered for his deep knowledge of directing, theater, and film.

Ellen Weiser, PhD

Professor and chair of the Chemistry and Physical Sciences Department on the Pleasantville campus, passed away on April 13, 2019. Weiser served 41 years at Pace University and will be remembered as a strong representative of the faculty who led numerous committees and stood up for her vision of Pace.
