Joseph V. Dumbra

Retired associate professor of Italian and Spanish in the modern languages and cultures department, passed away on November 27, 2019. Dumbra retired in 2001 after 37 years teaching at Pace. He was an untiring advocate for the University, students, and colleagues. He will be remembered for his generous spirit, passion for the Italian language and culture, and dedication to his department.

James Lipton

Dean emeritus and co-founder of the Actors Studio Drama School, passed away on March 2, 2020. He led a full, varied, and interesting life, rich with accomplishments, contributions, and mentoring. Lipton graced Pace’s Schimmel Theater stage for years with his craftoriented Inside the Actors Studio interviews, often staying for hours after taping to talk with students. He will be remembered for his larger-than-life personality and uplifting encouragement.

Shing So, PhD

Chair and professor of mathematics on the New York City campus, passed away on April 29, 2020. Under his leadership, the mathematics department conducted more research and increased its full-time faculty. He will be remembered as a supportive colleague and a caring mentor with a kind manner and permanent smile.
